St Wendreda's Church, March, Cambridgeshire. Pulpit 1875
13.11.1875
The Cambridge Chronicle reports “ A richly carved oak pulpit has been provided. This, in addition to ordinary ornamental work, has a figure of Christ, as the Good Shepherd, carved by Mr. Forsyth, of London “
The pictures below have been provided by ( and used with the permission of ) David Edwards, the archivist at March and District museum. David's research has found that the figures of two of the evangelists also carved on the pulpit were added in 1880 and 'completed' the pulpit at that date, suggesting the other two evangelists were also in place.
I cannot find any evidence that these figures were by James Forsyth but it is highly likely that they came out of his workshop in the period 1875-1880
