HALLOW
FONT FOR THE CHURCH. – Mr. Forsyth, of the Tything, has just finished a magnificent font, which Charles W. Lea, Esq., has presented to the new church at Hallow. The bowl of the font is octagonal, and has two medallions, containing appropriate Scriptural subjects, sculptured in bas- relief – these are our Lord blessing little children, and the Baptism. The other panels contain the dove and sacred monogram, beautifully entwined with foliage. The four other sides are inlaid with marbles, to imitate the lily of the valley; the flower being inlaid with pebble, and the leaves of beautiful malachite. The upper and lower margins are carved with diaper, and the capitals of the four supporting columns with foliage and flowers in alabaster. The columns are of coloured marble. The breadth of the general design, the elegance of the enrichment, and the excellence of the workmanship, combine to make this one of Mr. Forsyth’s best productions, and it will be a beautiful addition to the interior of the fine edifice which is now almost complete.
