Cloverley Hall, Whitchurch c1865 - 1868
Cloverley Hall was rebuilt in 1864 in a collaboration between William Eden Nesfield and Richard Norman Shaw
Between the two World Wars most of the victorian house was demolished and later rebuilt. Since the late 1960's the building has been used as a Christian retreat and conference centre
I was recently contacted by a lady whose house in Lancaster contains the fireplace from Cloverley hall, dated 1868 ! This shows relief carvings of 9 of Aesop's fables based upon drawings by Albert Moore whose work entitled 'The Seasons' was exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1864 and was also carved as a frieze for Cloverley by James Forsyth
