Market place fountain, Dudley 1867
The fountain was designed by James Forsyth and was commissioned by the Earl of Dudley as a gift to the town. The fountain was opened in an elaborate ceremony on the 17th October 1867. As the photo below shows, it drew quite a crowd and the engraving in the Illustrated London News shows James Forsyth between the Earl and his wife
. “a glass of water was drawn by the sculptor Mr. Forsyth for the Countess who sipped a portion of it from a light and exquisite goblet, of chaste and classical design, ornamented with an engraving of the fountain manufactured by Messrs. Renaud and Son”
