Davenham Bank, Great Malvern 1860 - 1865
Davenham bank was built from 1858 to around 1860 by Malvern builders George Mcann to plans completed by E.W.Elmslie for the Dyson Perrins family. At that time the owner was James Dyson Perrins, the son of William Perrins co-founder of Lea & Perrins sauce
When James died his son Charles William took over the property ( see history of Charles on the page for the Dyson Perrins family memorial here ) and lived there until his death in 1958 when the house and it's contents were bequeathed to the 'Friends of the Elderly' foundation who still own Davenham and currently run a care home on the site. ( For more information on this organisation, please visit www.fote.org.uk )
William Forsyth and his team worked with Elmslie and McCann on the original build and although this work predates the surviving Account books they do record work billed for Davenham in 1864 and again in the 1870s
I am indebted to James Wadlow, the General Manager of Friends of the Elderly's Davenham Care Home, who allowed me access to photograph the site and also kindly gave up his own time to show me around the whole of the house and grounds.
