ST MARY’S EPISCOPAL CHURCH, Birnam, Nr Dunkeld, Font. 1858
11.11.1858
The Perthshire Advertiser reports “ Some short time ago, we gave a description of a new Episcopal Chapel at Birnham, near Dunkeld. In continuation, we have received a communication from a correspondent, part of which we give as follows ‘ our churches have a bare, contract look about them, as if the monied element had cramped man’s soul in his labours. Yet in happy contrast to this all prevailing characteristic is a font placed in St Mary’s Episcopal Church, Birnham, Dunkeld, the gift of Miss Grant MacDowall, a worthy member and warm supporter of the Church. The font is from the design of Mr. William Slater, architect of the church, and sculptured by Mr. James Forsyth, both of London’ “
Many many thanks to the Rev’d Lesley-ann Craddock of St Mary's who kindly provided me with these photos
