St Paul's cathedral, London, Memorial for 57th Regiment 1877
17.07.1877
The Thame gazette reports “ A considerable number of persons, civil and military, assembled in one of the recesses on the North side of St Paul’s Cathedral, to witness the unveiling of the mural monument which has been placed there in memory of the officers and men of the 57th West Middlesex regiment, who had perished in battle in the Crimea and New Zealand. The work has been executed by Mr. James Forsyth…….in obedience to the desire of the Dean and Chapter, Mr. Forsyth has given his design mainly a religious character “
Huge thanks to Jason Edwards, Professor at the University of York, who sent me the photos from a recent study he undertook at St Paul's Cathedral
