William’s account book records “ Mr Abell, City & County Bank - Selecting railing and gates with Mr. Gibson and Mr. Abell, time for self 5 hours. Value: £0.10.06 / 08.01.1868 Designing and making Working drawing for Iron railing for the Branch Bank at Bromsgrove the City & County. Value: £1.01.00 / 21.02.1868 Going to Bromsgrove with Messrs Hardy & Padmore man to measure for gates etc Railfare. Value: £0.03.06 / Time etc. for Self. value: £1.01.00 / Carving in deal Pattern for iron railing on both sides for Bank. Value: £2.15.00 “
The railings were added to the newly re-constructed Bank building. These were removed at some point but new ones were constructed in 2015 when the building was renovated by Nick Joyce architects from Worcester. The team at Nick Joyce were very kind in providing me with some historic photographs of the building that were used to recreate William Forsyth's original design along with some photos from the process of casting the new railings by the firm of 'Barr & Grosvenor' based in Wolverhampton.
